KAWS AND PHARRELL INTERVIEW

NIKE HISTORY ; Phil Knight

Who designed the first ever Nike sneaker? What all does Air Max Technology entail? When was the first Nike sneaker created? That is only a few questions you may want to know the answer to if you are a die-hard, Nike sneaker enthusiasts. However, from a bigger standpoint, how did Nike itself begin?

46 years and one day ago, a person by the name of Phil Knight founded Blue Ribbon Sports which soon became Nike (January 25th, 1964). Knight, who is currently the owner, chairman, and CEO of the company, began selling running sneakers from the back of his truck under the name of Blue Ribbon Sports. His defining moment came when he called upon the brains of his former track coach Bill Bowerman (now a Nike co-founder) to elevate his brand. This led to the creation of the Nike Waffle Trainer which was the first shoe to possess traction. Nike, the brand formely known as Blue Ribbon Sports is now a multi-billion dollar company and is undoubtedly the most-recognized sneaker brand to date. Air Jordan II - White/Black-Varsity Red

For those who were mum on the White/3M joints and those who viewed the Crocodile colorway as a sacrilege, your prayers have been answered. The OG White/Black-Varsity Red colorway of the Air Jordan II is back!

Unlike the other II retros, this pair has retained the “Nike” branding whereas the others have supplanted it with “Air.” The pictured pair is, however, a sample so there is a chance this may be changed before the release. Also, keep with us as we are likely to have more news on this shoe as its release approaches. via nicekicks

“Cool Grey” Air Jordan 11 Retro Confirmed

At the beginning of January, we wondered what Air Jordan 11 Retro would return seeing that the past two years featured the black/red-white Air Jordan 11s and the “Space Jam” Air Jordan 11s, respectively (see our 10 Sneakers We’re Looking Forward to in 2010). Now, it seems we may have been unknowingly foreshadowing something great!

Itsshoestime has confirmed that the Air Jordan 11 Retro “Cool Grey” will officially return during the holiday season of 2010. Specifically, it is scheduled to hit retailers some time in November. If you recall, we have not seen this sneaker since it first released in 2001 for $125. You saw the hoopla that surrounded the “Space Jam” Air Jordan 11s. Imagine what will happen when this classic drops. Is this the best Air Jordan 11 colorway ever? Better yet, where does this particular sneaker rank among all of the Jordans ever created? via nicekicks

Air Jordan 3 Retro White/Cement Grey Confirmation

Great news comes in bunches, right? Following the “Cool Grey” Air Jordan 11 Retro re-release news, we have also learned that the Air Jordan 3 Retro White/Cement will also make a return in 2010.

Much like the Air Jordan 11 model, we have received a retro Air Jordan 3 annually for the past few years (”True Blue” Air Jordan 3 in 2009 & Air Jordan 3 Black/Cement Grey in 2008). However, we have not seen this particular colorway since it retroed in 2003. Additional rumors have circulated about this shoe being a part of an upcoming Air Jordan Slam Dunk Pack for 2010. Stay tuned for more information. What are your thoughts on this shoe returning? via nicekicks

Mobile Phone runs on Coke

Designer Daizi Zheng has designed an eco friendly phone for Nokia, which runs on Coca-Cola drinks. Yes, its fuel cells generates electricity from carbohydrates(sugar) in the Coke and it can run on any sugary water, not just Coke. Daizi writes:
"The concept is using bio battery to replace the traditional battery to create a pollution free environment. Bio battery is an ecologically friendly energy generates electricity from carbohydrates (currently sugar) and utilizes enzymes as the catalyst. By using bio battery as the power source of the phone, it only needs a pack of sugary drink and it generates water and oxygen while the battery dies out.
Bio battery has the potential to operate three to four times longer on a single charge than conventional lithium batteries and it could be fully biodegradable. Meanwhile, it brings a whole new perception to batteries and afternoon tea. " via likecool

Jordan Spiz’ike Hybrid Mini-site

Alter ego of director Spike Lee, many of you will remember Mars Blackmon from his Air Jordan commercials ‘back in the day’. In honour of the latest Jordan Spiz’ike hybrid, the Spiz’ike being inspired by Blackmon himself, Nike have created a mini site which presents the opportunity not only to learn more about the key elements that make up the hybrid, but also to Mars-isfy yourself: practice catchphrases (you know, you know, you know – it’s gotta be the shoes!) and upload your photo into one of the Mars templates via your computer or iphone. via. hypebeast and http://www.nike.com/jumpman23/becomemars/index.html
